Cambridge FC faced Luso Africa in the Hollywood Bets League on December 6 in Germiston, securing a 2-1 victory.
In their previous game against Benoni Northerns, Cambridge walked away as 2-1 winners.
This time Cambridge came out with a fire in their belly and dictated play from the onset. They played with more energy and ensured that Luso stayed on their back foot.
Cambridge youngster Mbongiseni Messi Dlamini scored the opening goal within the first 20 minutes. Later in the first half, Cambridge scored their second goal through Musawhake Washesha Hlatswayo.
The second half was a more tactical affair where both teams created scoring opportunities but could not change these into goals.
Lusu managed to get one goal past Cambridge’s goalkeeper as the match started to wind down.
Thereafter, the match was a stop-start affair with a lot of injuries.
“The boys showed their class and dedication to the team. We started strong, and that was the difference. Luso is no pushover team. We need to stay focused from start to finish,” said John Mourinho Mosia, head coach of Cambridge FC.
“We thank our supporters, as they are the backbone of our team. This rivalry and strong competition is making us stronger,” said club chairperson Ignatius Maphike.
Cambridge FC’s final game of the year is against Diambers Academy on December 14.
Cambridge is second on the log.
