Devon SAPS warns liquor traders: Comply or face closure
Local tavern and shebeen owners received a stern warning from Devon SAPS during a recent meeting addressing illegal alcohol sales and underage cigarette distribution.
Devon SAPS, in collaboration with Social Crime Prevention, Vispol, and members of the CPF, hosted an engagement session with local liquor traders on July 17.
The meeting, which included representatives from taverns and shebeens, focused on ongoing concerns around non-compliance with licensing regulations and the legal sale of alcohol in the area.
Attending business owners were told in no uncertain terms that if they did not comply with the regulations the shops will be closed and arrests would be imminent.
The shop owners were also warned that if that happens there is a possibility that the public could take matter in their own hands and the shops could be looted.
It was stressed that everyone needs to be security conscious and not think it could not happen to them.
There was also a stern warning to vendors not to sell cigarettes to under age children.
