Heritage Train Race marks 10 years of glamour and nostalgia
From vintage cars to thrilling aerial displays and a kid-friendly play area, there was something for everyone to enjoy while celebrating the town’s rich history.
The streets of Heidelberg came alive on September 27 as the town marked the 10th edition of the much-loved Heritage Train Race.

A decade on, the event still dazzles with the same glitz, glamour, and community spirit that first put it on the calendar.

The original race started in 1930 when the Woolf Barnato Bentley and the Le Bleu train raced for the first time.

Today, the race has been brought to Heidelberg and is now part of the town’s Heritage Month celebrations.

The event brings families, collectors, and enthusiasts together to celebrate the heritage of vintage cars, planes, and trains in a town steeped in history.

This year, the venue changed from previous editions, which saw the train arrive at the station while other activities took place at the Heidelberg airfield. For the 10th edition, the entire event was stationed at the Heidelberg Railway Station.

There was a dedicated play area for children, live performances from the Staccattos and Bernice West, and a shuttle service to the airfield for helicopter flips. A mini train was also available for youngsters to enjoy their own train experience.

Although the train’s arrival was delayed by two hours, it did not dampen the crowd’s spirits, as there was plenty to see and do. When the train, named Shaun, finally arrived, three Red Bull Puma Harvard airplanes performed in the air, joined later by two Alouette helicopters.

The train made a dramatic entrance with its whistle blowing and steam rising, creating a spectacular sight.

Attendees had the opportunity to take photos of the train or pose with it. After the train’s departure, the festivities continued until close to 16:00.
