Nigel residents share their experiences and views on breast cancer

As Breast Cancer Awareness month is observed in October, Nigel residents open up about their personal experiences and urge others to prioritise regular health check-ups and early detection.

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to spreading knowledge, promoting early detection, and supporting those affected by the disease.

Nigel residents recently shared their thoughts and personal experiences to help raise awareness in their community.

Patros Seeije (72) shared his experience with a health scare. “I went to the clinic for a check-up, and they suspected prostate cancer. I’m grateful they caught it early. I encourage everyone to visit clinics regularly for screenings.”
Freedo Sesi Mqoma’s (35) family have been affected by the illness. “My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. Chemotherapy was painful, but we supported her throughout the process. They removed her left breast, and she survived. I think it is important to visit the clinic for regular check-ups.”
Samuel Mkhonto (40) admitted he was unaware that men could also be affected. “I did not know much about breast cancer, and was shocked to learn that it can also affect men.”
Zakithi Ndlovu (38) shared that her family has also felt the impact of the disease. “Both my sisters had lumps removed from their breasts. Breast cancer is dangerous and can be fatal. People must stop being ignorant and seek medical advice if they suspect anything unusual.”
