Use your own cellphone number when applying for the R370 SRD grant, says Sassa

Verification SMSes are key to successful approvals and payments and will not work if the number belongs to someone else.

Sassa urges all SRD grant applicants to use cellphone numbers registered in their own names when applying for the R370 Covid-19 grant.

In a statement released on November 6, Sassa emphasised that cellphone numbers and banking details are essential to the application process.

“Using your own number allows you to monitor and check the progress of your application and receive important notifications from the agency,” the statement read.

These notifications could include verification messages that require the applicant’s attention. Without completing the verification process, applications will be unsuccessful and not receive grant payments.

Sassa said the verification step is a crucial safeguard to ensure grants are paid to the correct beneficiaries and to help prevent fraudulent activity.

“When banking details do not belong to the applicant, the system will not verify the payment. Once banking details are verified and confirmed, the grant will be paid from the next pay run.”

The agency also urged applicants to provide accurate information to avoid unnecessary delays. To apply for the SRD grant, visit srd.sassa.gov.za and select either South African ID Holders or Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders, then follow the prompts.

For further assistance, call Sassa’s toll-free helpline on 0800 60 10 11 during working hours, Monday to Friday.
