Jezel Esbend (57) represents Alra Park as Miss Callies 2025

Jezel Esbend (57) from Alra Park is proudly stepping onto the 2025 Miss Callies 2025, using her journey, community work, and inspiring spirit to motivate young people.

Jezel Esbend (57) from Alra Park is proudly representing her community as a finalist in Miss Callies 2025.

She continues to inspire young people with her determination, confidence and commitment to community upliftment.

“I entered Miss Diva in June this year, and the experience was fun, but also challenging because it pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me the opportunity to grow in ways I never expected.

“When they crowned me as first princess, it made me feel seen and celebrated like a queen. That moment boosted my confidence and reminded me that it is never too late to reinvent yourself. It encouraged me to enter other pageants, which is how I eventually applied for Miss Callies.

“This pageant looks for strong, independent women who are actively making a difference in their communities, and I felt that my journey and my work align with that vision,” she said.

The grand finale will take place on November 29 in Boksburg, and Esbend said she is preparing with excitement and determination.

“I am a bit nervous because the competition is tough. I believe in myself, and in the work I do, and believe in the support I have from my community. I’m going to give it my all, and I truly feel that I’m going to bring the crown home,“ she said.

Esbend serves as a manager at the Freedom Recovery Centre in Nigel, an NPO that offers free sewing, baking, and computer skills courses to empower residents.

“Our youth face so many challenges, and sometimes all they need is someone to show them that there are opportunities waiting for them.

“We provide these courses free of charge to break barriers and open doors. I want to encourage everyone, especially young people, to seize this opportunity.

“We also have another centre in Duduza, so our services reach even more people. Empowering someone with a skill can change their entire future,” she said.

Beyond her community work, Esbend is a dedicated mother of three daughters, whom she describes as her greatest motivation.

“I love spending time with my children and grandchildren. They motivate me every day to keep going and to aim higher.

“Being a mother has taught me strength, resilience and patience, and those qualities help me in everything I do.
“I want young people to see that age should never limit their dreams. If I can pursue my goals at 57, then they can also rise above their circumstances and achieve whatever they set their minds to.

“I would like to thank the entire community of Alra Park and Nigel for their continuous love and encouragement they show me,“ she said.

“Every vote and every message of support truly makes a difference,” she said.
