Heidelberg Hospital staff uplift patients through care initiative

Heidelberg hospital hosted a heartwarming Christmas celebration for patients and mothers who spent the holiday in hospital care on December 25

Heidelberg Hospital marked the festive season on December 25 with a heartwarming Christmas celebration dedicated to patients and mothers who spent the holiday in hospital care.

The initiative aimed to bring comfort, warmth, and a sense of belonging to those unable to celebrate at home.

The celebration was led by acting CEO, Dr Dikete Hlahane, and members of the hospital’s executive team, who conducted a hospital-wide walkabout, visiting every ward to hand out gifts, share festive greetings, and spend time with patients.

Mothers in the maternity ward received special gift packages, and Ward 6 patients were also recognised.

Nursing manager Teboho Ramahlo shared encouraging words with the mothers, offering guidance and reassurance.

“Motherhood is one of the most beautiful journeys a woman can embark on, but it comes with challenges, responsibilities, and many unknowns. We want each mother to know that she is strong, capable, and deeply valued.

“Our team stands beside you, offering support, guidance, and care as you nurture your children. We hope that today’s celebration brings joy to your hearts, strengthens your resolve, and reminds you that you are not alone on this journey,” she said.

Busisiwe Moloi from the Finance Department also shared her perspective, emphasising the long-term importance of nurturing children.

“Every child deserves to grow in an environment of love, care, and encouragement. Our role as staff is not only to provide medical care but to support families and mothers in their crucial role of shaping the next generation.

“Seeing the happiness of the mothers and their babies today reminds us why our work matters so much and inspires us to continue providing the best care possible,” she said.

Mmapheello Mlote, secretary at the Clinical Unit, extended sincere appreciation to all staff involved in organising the event.

“This initiative is so meaningful because it ensures that every patient feels cared for and remembered during the festive season.

“We saw smiles, gratitude, and a heartfelt appreciation from both parents and their families. It was wonderful to witness our staff and executives working together to make this Christmas special. From gift packages to Christmas meals, and recognising the staff on duty, every effort contributed to a spirit of unity, compassion, and joy throughout the hospital,” she said.
