Heidelberg Hope launches plans for 2026

Heidelberg Hope is focusing on a cleaner, safer and more prosperous town in 2026, with plans to revitalize the CBD, expand community programmes, and attract more businesses and tourists

Heidelberg Hope has announced that its main focus for 2026 will be building a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous Heidelberg.

The organisation plans to expand environmental programmes, strengthen food security and family support initiatives, and increase community involvement across the town.

Nicolene Neveling from the organisation said one of the key focus areas for 2026 is the clean-up and revitalisation of the Heidelberg CBD.

“Work is already underway at the main taxi rank to create a new, organised trading area that will allow informal traders to move off the sidewalks and operate in a safer, cleaner, and more formal space.

“This will improve pedestrian access, reduce congestion, and create a more attractive business environment. By cleaning up the CBD and restoring order, we hope to fill empty shops, attract new businesses, and make Heidelberg a place that everyone can be proud of,” she said.

Neveling said Heidelberg Hope is also expanding its community clean-up zones, Adopt-a-Space programme, recycling initiatives, and partnerships focused on skills development, youth engagement, and emergency family support. “To take on bigger projects and reach more areas of town, we need support from local businesses, residents, and partners.

“We are strengthening our fundraising efforts, building relationships with local businesses, and expanding our volunteer network to ensure we can make a tangible impact across Heidelberg,” she said.

Neveling emphasised the importance of collaboration.

“Heidelberg Hope belongs to the community. Every resident, business, and organisation can contribute. Whether by volunteering, supporting fundraising events, or organising projects like street clean-ups, garden planting, or play park repairs.

“Every small action contributes to meaningful, lasting change. Residents can stay informed about events and initiatives through our social media page, which provides updates, project opportunities, and ways to get involved,” she said.
