A total of 36 golfers took to the fairways at Nigel Golf Course on January 16 for the club's popular Par 3 competition, with vice chairperson Michael Bernardo highlighting the role the event plays in growing the sport and strengthening community participation.
A Par 3 golf competition was held at Nigel Golf Course on January 16, drawing a field of 36 players for the popular twice-monthly event.
The Par 3 competition takes place on the second and last Fridays of each month and is sponsored by Biltong and Bokkoms as well as B & Sons Slabs. The competition is open to all golfers, provided that four-ball bookings are made in advance.
The nine-hole event is played on Nigel Golf Course’s specially designed Par 3 layout, offering a competitive yet accessible format for players of varying skill levels.
Vice chairperson of Nigel Golf, Michael Bernardo, said the event continues to play an important role in promoting golf in the local community.
“Our Par 3 competitions have become an important feature on the Nigel Golf calendar.

“They offer an opportunity for seasoned golfers and newcomers to enjoy the game in a relaxed but competitive environment. By hosting these events regularly, we aim to encourage consistent participation, skills development, and a strong sense of camaraderie among players.
“We are grateful to our sponsors, whose support makes these competitions possible. Their involvement enables us to keep the events accessible and welcoming.
“We also appreciate the continued support from the golfers who participate and contribute to the growth of the sport in Nigel,” he said.
