Volunteer-driven Rensburg Forum steps up crime prevention efforts
The Rensburg Forum continues to play a vital role in community safety, supporting SAPS through volunteer patrols, rapid response, and outreach initiatives, while planning to strengthen operations and expand participation in 2026.
The Rensburg Forum continues to play a crucial role in enhancing safety and community support in Rensburg through its volunteer-driven crime prevention initiatives.
Formed by concerned residents, the community-based forum operates as an NPO structure and serves as an additional set of eyes and ears for the police.
Forum member Lee Neto said they work on a voluntary basis to assist law enforcement and protect the community.
“Our primary focus is to support the SAPS by reporting suspicious and criminal activities, both during the day and at night.
“We conduct regular patrols and respond to incidents such as house burglaries and emergencies whenever the need for assistance arises.

“Over the past year, the Forum’s active involvement in crime prevention and rapid response has contributed to quicker identification and apprehension of suspects.
“Rensburg continues to face challenges related to crime and limited policing resources, particularly a shortage of police vehicles, which remains a significant concern. We work closely with the police, the Lesedi Traffic Department and the fire department,” he said.
Neto said the forum also prioritises community care to fight poverty and unemployment.
“We had an outreach initiative during which approximately 250 plates of food were prepared and distributed to elderly residents and community members in need.
“The project was made possible through sponsorships from local businesses, donations from residents, and contributions from the Forum members.

“We are currently in the process of registering an NPO, which will allow for structured donations, improved transparency, and expanded community safety efforts in the future,” he said.
Neto added that the forum plans to strengthen its operations by increasing membership and encouraging more residents to become involved in patrols and by reporting crime.
“Another project under consideration is the acquisition of a drone, subject to SAPS approval. The drone will be used to identify unsafe areas, such as overgrown spaces that could become hiding spaces for criminals, and to assist in monitoring high-risk areas.
“We also encourage residents to support the forum by participating in patrols and by reporting suspicious activities. Local businesses and stakeholders can also assist through sponsorships or donations, particularly for essentials such as fuel used during patrols,” he said.
