Justice calls grow as four suspects in Freddy Peace Mokoena murder appear in court

Community members, family and political organisations gathered at the Nigel Magistrate's Court as four suspects linked to the murder of rising amapiano star Freddy Peace Mokoena made their second appearance, with a strong opposition to bail.

His death has sparked outrage among community members, music supporters, and political organisations, who continue to call for justice.

The suspects appeared briefly before the court, where the magistrate postponed the matter to February 13 for a formal bail application and further proceedings.

Family spokesperson and aunt, Matseko Mokoena, said the family is still struggling to come to terms with the loss and has appealed for the suspects to remain in custody.

“This is painful for us because we are trying to come to terms with his death. We believe the people responsible do not deserve bail and should remain behind bars. We thank the community for the overwhelming support and solidarity shown to us during this difficult time,” she said.

Members of the community and political parties attended the court proceedings to support the family. Action SA Ward 87 chairperson Nhlanhla Nhlapo said the young artist’s life was cut short while he still had a promising future.

“We are here to support the family and demand justice for Freddy. He was a young man with a bright future that was taken away by criminals. We do not support bail because these suspects are no longer welcome in the community,” he said.
