Bertha Gxowa Primary holds first prefects induction ceremony

The Bertha Gxowa Primary School marked a milestone on February 4 when newly elected prefects were inducted during the school’s first ceremony of its kind.

The Ratanda Bertha Gxowa Primary School marked a milestone when it hosted its first prefect induction ceremony on February 4.

The ceremony, the first since the school’s establishment, saw newly elected prefects inducted into their leadership roles, signalling the start of their responsibility to serve as role models in the school community.

The prefects were sworn into office by the principal, in collaboration with the South African National Defence Force.

Prefect Oratile Monaheng presented the school’s vision, outlining the leadership body’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, unity and academic excellence.

“Our vision is to see our school continue to grow as a place where learners respect one another, take their education seriously and always strive to do their best. As prefects, we want to lead by example, show good behaviour and encourage other learners to believe in themselves and their abilities,” she said.

Prefect Katleho Sephula, who delivered the mission statement, said the prefect body understood the responsibility that came with their new roles.

“Our mission is to serve this school with dedication and honesty, support our teachers, and guide other learners in the right direction. We want to show that leadership is about helping others, listening, and making sure everyone feels safe and proud to be part of this school,” he said.

Parents Jane Nhlapo welcomed the initiative and said the induction was a proud and emotional moment for families.

“As parents, we are proud to see our children trusted with leadership responsibilities at such a young age. This programme teaches them discipline, respect and confidence, and it shows that the school is serious about preparing them for the next grade and life beyond the classroom,” she said.
