The ANC Women’s League Sedibeng Region commemorated International Women’s Day on March 8 with a community outreach programme in Ratanda, highlighting the league’s commitment to service, solidarity, and giving back to the community.
Leading the event were ANCWL president and minister Sisisi Tolashe, members of the ANCWL National Executive Committee, Gauteng Provincial Secretary Teliswa Mgweba, members of the Provincial Executive Committee, and local ANCWL members from Sedibeng and Lesedi.
The programme began with a church visit in Ratanda under the theme “Give to Gain,” aimed at honouring the role of women in strengthening families, nurturing communities, and building a caring society.

Tolashe said International Women’s Day is about recognising the crucial role women play in homes, workplaces, and communities.
“Women are the backbone of society because they nurture, protect, and inspire those around them. Today, we celebrate their contributions and remind ourselves of the importance of giving back, supporting one another, and creating communities that are compassionate, inclusive, and strong.
“We hope to inspire young women and men to value service, respect one another, and work together to build a stronger, more caring society. True progress comes when we recognise the work of women, support each other, and ensure no one in our communities is left behind,” she said.

Gauteng provincial secretary Teliswa Mgweba said this day is also a call to action for everyone.
“As women leaders, we have a responsibility to serve our communities and lead by example. Engaging directly with people here in Ratanda shows the importance of solidarity and care.
“By giving our time and attention to those in need, especially our elderly residents, we demonstrate the values of empathy, service, and humanity that the Women’s League stands for,” she said.
As part of the day’s programme, ANCWL members visited the Ratanda Old Age Home, spending time with elderly residents, listening to their stories, and offering support and companionship.
