Volunteers restore HF Verwoerd Street, making road safer for motorists

After weeks of hard work, Heidelberg Hope volunteers have completed pothole repairs on HF Verwoerd Street, one of the town’s busiest roads. The project, completed despite challenging weather, promises safer and smoother driving for residents and motorists.

Heidelberg motorists can now enjoy a smoother and safer drive along HF Verwoerd Street, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Heidelberg Hope volunteers, who have completed repairs on one of the town’s busiest roads.

The street had been plagued by potholes for some time, causing frustration among residents and motorists alike.

Some community members raised concerns about the repair process, which involved first cleaning and squaring each pothole before filling it. Nicolene Neveling of Heidelberg Hope explained that cold tar is suitable for low-traffic roads, while warm to hot tar is required for busier streets.

“Because of the poor weather, it wasn’t always possible to heat the tar to the correct temperature, so some potholes were prepared but not filled immediately. Fortunately, recent sunny days allowed the team to complete the work, earning praise from residents for their perseverance and patience,” she said.

Neveling also confirmed that the Lesedi Local Municipality will soon add road markings along HF Verwoerd Street, while street lights on the same route are also being repaired. Heidelberg Hope expressed gratitude to all volunteers and contributors who made the project possible.
