N3, Spruitview – Government Launches 2026 Easter Road Safety Campaign
The Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy, together with Deputy Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa, officially launched the 2026 Easter road safety campaign on March 20 along the N3 near Spruitview.
The campaign forms part of a nationwide effort to reduce road accidents and fatalities during the busy Easter holiday period, traditionally one of the most dangerous times on South Africa’s roads.
Creecy emphasised the importance of responsible behaviour behind the wheel.

“Easter is a time when we see a significant increase in traffic volumes across the country, and with that comes a higher risk of road accidents. This campaign is a call to every South African to take responsibility for their behaviour on the road. Simple actions such as obeying speed limits, avoiding alcohol while driving, and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy can save countless lives,” she said.
Executive Mayor of the Lesedi Local Municipality, Mluleki Nkosi, highlighted the need for coordinated action across all spheres of government to promote safer road usage.
“As local government, we are fully behind this campaign because we see firsthand the devastating impact road accidents have on our communities. We urge all residents and visitors travelling through our municipality this Easter to act responsibly and prioritise safety at all times,” he said.

Hlengwa reinforced the message, stressing that compliance should stem from responsibility rather than fear.
“Our message is clear because road safety begins with each and every one of us. Law enforcement will be out in full force, but compliance should not be driven by fear of penalties. It must come from a genuine commitment to protecting ourselves, our passengers, and other road users,” he said.
