Heidelberg is marking a significant milestone this year as the town celebrates 160 years since its establishment, prompting reflection, pride, and renewed appreciation among residents.
Community members have shared their thoughts on what the anniversary means to them, highlighting the town’s rich history and strong sense of belonging that has been passed down through generations.
Antoinette Mouton said the occasion is deeply meaningful for those who call Heidelberg home.

“Heidelberg turning 160 years old is something truly special for all of us. It’s not just about the number of years, but about the memories, the generations of families, and the strong sense of community that has been built over time. I feel proud to be part of a town with such a rich history, and I hope we continue to grow while preserving what makes Heidelberg unique,” she said.
Markus Bratz described the milestone as a testament to the town’s and its people’s resilience.

“Reaching 160 years is a remarkable achievement. It shows growth and the community’s enduring spirit. Heidelberg it’s where people still care about one another. I would love to see more events that bring residents together to celebrate our heritage,” he said.
Christa Bratz emphasised the importance of remembering the town’s past while educating younger generations.

“It’s amazing to think that Heidelberg has been around for 160 years. There is so much history here, and you can still feel it in certain parts of the town. It’s important for young people to learn about this history and appreciate the foundations that were laid before us. This celebration is a chance to reflect and also look ahead,” she said.

“Being in Heidelberg during its 160th year feels exciting and meaningful. It’s a time to celebrate both the past and the future.
