Heidelberg Volunteer Medics handle 11 emergencies in 10 days, including fatal cases
Heidelberg Volunteer Medics and First Aid Responders were kept busy over a 10-day period, attending to multiple medical emergencies and accidents, with four fatalities reported across the region.
Heidelberg Volunteer Medics and First Aid Responders remained on high alert from April 7 to 17, responding to a series of emergencies across Heidelberg and surrounding areas.
According to the organisation, volunteers responded to 11 callouts during the reporting period.
Six patients were transported to medical facilities, while one patient was escorted to hospital. One incident resulted in no serious injuries, while four fatalities were recorded.
The majority of the callouts involved medical emergencies, particularly among elderly patients suffering from chest pain, respiratory distress, and sudden collapse, requiring urgent intervention.
Volunteers also attended several serious motor vehicle accidents along the R42 and R23 routes.
One of the incidents involved a patient trapped in a vehicle, while others resulted in multiple injuries requiring coordinated emergency response.
Among the most tragic cases was an incident on the R23 involving the fatality of an infant, which responders attended to alongside emergency services.
In a separate incident, a child was treated for glass lacerations sustained during a domestic accident.
Throughout the period, Heidelberg Volunteer Medics and First Aid Responders worked in close collaboration with various emergency services, including Gauteng Provincial Government health services, Netcare, SAPS, Lesedi Fire Services, and Traffic Authorities, ensuring a coordinated and effective response to incidents.
