HDTA announces fare adjustment for local and long-distance commuters

The Heidelberg and District Taxi Association has confirmed that taxi fares across all routes will increase from May 18 as operators battle rising fuel and maintenance costs.

Commuters in Heidelberg and surrounding areas will soon pay more for transport following the announcement of a fare increase by the Heidelberg and District Taxi Association.

The revised fare structure, which applies to both local and long-distance routes, will take effect on May 18.

According to the association, the adjustment comes after internal engagements among operators aimed at finding sustainable ways to manage mounting financial pressures within the taxi industry.

HDTA chairperson Tshepo Molaba said the decision was driven by continued increases in fuel prices as well as rising operational costs.

“The rising costs of petrol and diesel, vehicle maintenance, and spare parts have placed significant pressure on taxi operators. This adjustment is necessary to ensure that we continue providing safe, reliable, and consistent transport services to the community.

We understand that fare increases affect many households, but this decision was taken after careful consideration of the challenges facing the transport sector,” he added.

The HDTA confirmed that the following revised fares will apply across key routes:
