Lesedi Sports Confederation launched to unite and develop local sport
The newly established Lesedi Sports Confederation was officially launched at the Heidelberg Bowling Club on May 26, with stakeholders describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening sport development and unity across the region.
A new era for sport development in the Lesedi region officially began on May 26 with the launch of the Lesedi Sports Confederation at the Heidelberg Bowling Club.
The newly established organisation also announced its elected leadership committee during the launch meeting, marking, stakeholders described, a significant milestone for structured sport development, unity and collaboration across the region.
The confederation was established with the aim of advancing, developing and coordinating sport within Lesedi while strengthening cooperation between different sporting codes and community sporting structures.
Leading the newly elected committee is president Mbali Hlophe, supported by first vice-president Jaco van Rensburg and second vice-president Rowleën Welsh.
Other elected members include secretary Lebogang Tutubala, deputy secretary Cecil van der Berg and additional member Velaphi Motsepe.
Rowleën Welsh, who is also a chairperson for Heidelberg Hockey Club, said the establishment of the confederation represents an important step towards creating sustainable opportunities for athletes and sporting organisations in the area.
“This is a proud and historic moment for sport in Lesedi because for the first time, we are bringing different sporting codes together under one structure with a shared vision for development and growth.
“We want to create opportunities for young athletes, strengthen community sport and ensure that local sporting organisations receive the support and recognition they deserve. Sport has the power to unite communities, inspire young people and create positive change, and that is exactly what we want this confederation to achieve,” she said.
Stakeholders who attended the meeting welcomed the formation of the Lesedi Sports Confederation and expressed optimism about the future of sport development within the region.
The organisation is expected to focus on strengthening local sporting structures, promoting youth participation in sport and improving coordination between sporting bodies across Lesedi.
