Driver safely stops truck after medical episode on R549 Vaal Dam Road
A truck driver is believed to have suffered a seizure while driving on the R549 Vaal dam Road on June 3 but managed to bring his vehicle to a controlled stop before collapsing, preventing a potentially serious accident.
A truck driver who allegedly suffered a medical emergency while driving on the R549 Vaal Dam Road on June 3 managed to bring his vehicle to a safe stop, preventing what could have been a serious accident.
The incident came to light after a concerned member of the public reported a bloodied man lying next to the road and a truck obstructing traffic. Members of Rensburg Forum responded to the scene and found that personnel from Gauteng Medical Services Ambulance were already providing medical assistance to the driver.
According to information obtained at the scene, the driver is believed to have suffered a seizure or similar medical episode while behind the wheel.
Despite the emergency, he reportedly maintained control of the truck and brought it to a controlled stop before exiting the vehicle.
Shortly after leaving the truck, the driver allegedly collapsed next to the roadway and sustained injuries.
Emergency medical personnel assessed him at the scene, where he appeared disoriented and confused following the incident.

In an unexpected turn of events, the patient later left the ambulance and walked towards nearby bushes, declining any further medical treatment or assistance.
Rensburg Forum thanked the vigilant resident who reported the incident, enabling emergency services to respond quickly.
The organisation also commended Gauteng Medical Services for their swift and professional response.
The scene was cleared shortly afterwards, and traffic on the R549 Vaal Dam Road returned to normal.
No other injuries or accidents were reported as a result of the incident.
