Nkosi and Motara lead intervention to fast-track hostel refurbishment programme

Government leaders, community representatives and contractors have agreed on key resolutions to address challenges affecting the hostel refurbishment project following a high-level engagement in Heidelberg on June 4, aimed at ensuring continued progress and improved living conditions for residents.

Lesedi Executive Mayor Mluleki Nkosi and Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara met with Izinduna and the main contractor responsible for the hostel refurbishment project on June 4.

They discussed progress and addressed challenges affecting the development.

The engagement provided a platform for all stakeholders to openly discuss issues affecting the project and identify practical solutions to ensure its successful implementation.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation among the government, community leadership, and the contractor, while reaffirming a shared commitment to improving living conditions for hostel residents.

Several project-related concerns were discussed, and stakeholders reached an agreement on key matters that could have delayed progress.

The resolutions are expected to support the smooth continuation of construction and refurbishment work.

Nkosi emphasised the importance of continued collaboration and communication among all parties to ensure the project remains on track.

“This engagement demonstrated what can be achieved when government, community leaders and contractors work together towards a common goal.

“Our priority is to ensure that the hostel refurbishment project proceeds without unnecessary delays so that residents can benefit from improved living conditions and a safer, more dignified living environment.
“We remain committed to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of this important development,” he said.

“The hostel refurbishment programme is an important investment in restoring dignity and improving the quality of life for residents.

“Today’s engagement provided an opportunity for all stakeholders to address challenges constructively and strengthen our collective commitment to delivering safe, sustainable and quality housing. We are encouraged by the progress made and remain dedicated to ensuring that this project achieves its intended outcomes for the community,” she said.
