EMPD warns against illegal advertising trailers

The City of Ekurhuleni reminds businesses that advertising trailers parked on public roads are not permitted and may be impounded.

The EMPD By-Law and Compliance Unit is urging businesses and individuals to familiarise themselves with the city’s advertising regulations following ongoing action against illegally parked advertising trailers.

According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, officers continue to respond to complaints about advertising trailers that are parked or displayed in prohibited areas.

“During these operations, the trailers are confiscated and towed to the nearest EMPD vehicle pound,” he said.

The department said many individuals and companies are unaware of the city’s advertising by-laws.

“The City of Ekurhuleni has not approved the use of advertising trailers that are parked or displayed on public roads. Advertising trailers are only permitted while they are in motion,” he added.

Dlamini explained that the only legal form of outdoor advertising within the city is through approved billboards.

Businesses wishing to advertise must first apply for approval through the city’s Media Outdoor Advertising Department.

“Failure to comply with the city’s by-laws may result in an advertising trailer being impounded.
“Owners will also be liable for towing and storage costs before the trailer can be released,” said Dlamini.

The EMPD encouraged businesses and advertisers to familiarise themselves with the applicable regulations before displaying advertisements.
