Lesedi Local Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services hosted a fire prevention and community safety awareness programme at the Jameson Park Community Hall on October 8, aiming to educate residents on fire prevention, emergency preparedness and disaster response.
The programme brought together various stakeholders to raise awareness about key safety issues affecting the community, including fire prevention, disaster preparedness, first aid, emergency response, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) safety, road safety, social relief assistance and gender-based violence.

Residents actively participated in discussions, with particular attention given to the safe handling of LPG and the procedures for accessing support following disasters.
The initiative forms part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to build safer and more disaster-resilient communities through public education, awareness campaigns and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
By equipping residents with practical safety information, the programme sought to strengthen community preparedness, reduce the risk of fire-related incidents and ensure residents are better informed about the assistance available to them during emergencies.
