Cambridge FC hosted the first match of the year at the Mackenzieville Stadium against Ace Auto Ayobo FC on January 14.
“The match started slow, with the players still in the holiday spirit,” chairperson Ignatius Maphike said.
“But the boys kept neat possession of the ball.”
The Ace Auto Ayobo team scored the first goal of the match after a defensive mistake from the Cambridge side.
“The goal got the boys to wake up. An equalising goal was scored by Cambridge player Vuysile Naymar Pasman,” Maphike said.
Ace Auto Ayobo FC managed to get another goal in the 39th minute of the match.
Reaoboka Boka Sello from Cambridge scored another equalising goal in the 44th minute. He was also the man of the match.
During the second half of the match, Cambridge player Oupa Junior Mbokazi netted a goal for their team.
The match ended in a win for Cambridge, with a final score of 3-2.
“We are happy with the win at home, especially since we played a U21 team to give the boys the opportunity to prove themselves,” Maphike said.
“They worked their socks off.
“We would like to thank the supporters who came out on the day and plead to them to continue to fill the stadiums.”
