The Cambridge reserves secure narrow win with disciplined second-half performance

Tactical changes and disciplined play proved key as the team looks to carry momentum into its final matches.

The Cambridge Football Club reserves clinched a narrow 1-0 win against the Wolves FC in their Mafa LFA match at the McKenzieville Stadium on July 12.

The match, filled with excitement and strong competition, raised the bar for spectators. Both teams remained highly competitive throughout the encounter, spanning the width and length of the field with end-to-end action.

Cambridge kept the ball with one-touch inter-passing play and patience to exploit openings in the Wolves’ defence.

Both teams created chances in the first half but failed to convert them.

In the second half, both teams resumed their strong approach, with one attack leading to another. The goalkeepers at both ends had their work cut out, making multiple saves.

Cambridge made some tactical changes with 30 minutes of play left, which paid off when they scored a brilliant team goal, putting them ahead for the first time.

From there, Cambridge controlled the game by dominating possession, and the score stayed 1-0 until the final whistle.

“We are happy with the performance, and the boys carried out my instructions to the letter. We hope our last four games will have the same outcome,” said Seun Motloung, the Cambridge reserves coach.

“I’m pleased with the discipline today, and it shows that we can get the results if we remain disciplined through the game. We are also busy with preseason preparation for the first team,” said Ignatius Maphike, the Cambridge FC chairperson.
