Winning weekend for Bridges’ reserves
The Cambridge FC reserves claimed two victories over the weekend, netting 15 goals across two matches and pushing ahead in the MAFA title race.
The Cambridge Football Club reserves secured two wins in a weekend in the local MAFA league.
The reserves played a double-header on July 19 and 20 to catch up on fixtures as the league nears its end.
On July 19, Cambridge faced the Peace Brothers FC, where they dominated from the start, playing attacking football, with great combination play and solid ball possession.
The Peace Brothers FC were soon on the back foot, conceding three goals in the opening 15 minutes of the first half.

Their overwhelmed defence had its work cut out when Cambridge launched more attacks, scoring two more goals before halftime, leaving the scoreline at 5-0.
In the second half, the Bridges relaxed, allowing the opposition to score three times as focus dipped.
However, the goals served as a wake-up call, and Cambridge responded, scoring four more times to kill the match.
The Peace Brothers managed a late consolation, with the final score at 9-4 in favour of Cambridge.
On July 20, Cambridge continued their strong form against AC Villa at the MacKenzieville Stadium in Alra Park.
Villa struggled to keep up with Cambridge’s intensity as the team played two-touch football, dominating possession throughout the match. Not only did they control the ball, they converted chances into goals, scoring three times in the first half.

The second half continued in the same fashion, with Cambridge scoring three more goals, sealing a 6-0 victory.
Cambridge now heads into season-deciding fixtures against the Jurry Jnr Stars, the Dream Team FC and the Umnyovu FC.
The final three matches of the season will determine the league winners, with Jurry Stars currently leading.
“It was a good learning curve for our boys, and we thank our chairperson for this opportunity of affiliating a reserves team in the Local Football Association. Many of these boys were street-bound, but this league and opportunity have given them a chance to showcase their talents and, hopefully, get promoted to the first team that plays in the Hollywood Bets League,” said coach Seun Matlhoung.
“We are all about fair competition and don’t do favours for anyone. We will play every game as if it is a final, and may the best team go on to represent MAFA in the Super League playoffs,” said Ignatius Maphike, Cambridge Club chairperson.
