Cambridge FC kicks off new season with a win

Cambridge Football Club kicked off their new season in the Ekhuruleni Hollywood Bets League with a match against the Samba Boys from Rieger Park, Boksburg, on October 18 at McKenzieville Stadium.
After a two-month pre-season preparation, the coaching staff faced the challenge of motivating the team following a tumultuous previous season marked by club suspensions.
As the match began, it was evident that Cambridge aimed to leave the past behind, quickly taking control of the ball and establishing their rhythm. The players grew increasingly confident as the first half progressed, with five U21 players making their debut for the first team.

Despite Cambridge’s dominance, they struggled to convert possession into goal-scoring opportunities, and the first half concluded in a goalless stalemate.
In the second half, Cambridge made several substitutions, bringing in more experienced players, which added direction to their play.

As the match wore on, Njabulo Moagi finally opened the scoring for Cambridge, marking the team’s first goal of the match and the league. Soon after, Kgotso Makhura extended their lead with a well-placed cross by Mthusi Mqele. No additional goals were scored, allowing Cambridge to secure a strong opening victory in the league.
“We promoted four players from the reserve team, which is a testament to the club’s development. We also thank former captain Jabulani Motha of Dust Busters Cleaning Service for sponsoring the new kits, and we encourage all former players to support the club in various ways. A big thank you to our fans from the local LFA MAFA Football League for their unwavering support,” said Ignatius Maphike, chairperson of Cambridge FC.
