Nigel Primary School learner qualifies for national primary schools championships

Micah Smith from Nigel Primary School has qualified to represent Gauteng at the National Primary Schools Championships after securing second place in the high jump at the provincial championships.

Twelve-year-old Micah Smith, a Grade Six learner at Nigel Primary School, is set to represent Gauteng at the upcoming National Primary Schools Championships after delivering an impressive performance in the high jump.

His dedication and determination have helped him stand out in athletics, earning him recognition at several levels of competition.

Competing for the Nigel Central Athletics Team, Micah performed exceptionally well and finished among the top three athletes in the Greater Nigel area. His strong performance secured him a place at district level, where he represented the D5 District and qualified for the provincial championships.

During the Gauteng Provincial Championships, held on March 13, around 30 athletes competed in the high jump event.

Only the top 12 boys advanced to the finals the following day. Micah successfully cleared a height of 1.40m, securing his place among the finalists.

In the finals on March 14, Micah continued to impress with another strong performance.

He cleared 1.50m, finishing second overall in the event. His achievement earned him a place on the Gauteng provincial team, qualifying him to compete at national level.

The National Primary Schools Championships will take place from March 19 to 22, where Micah will proudly represent Nigel Primary School, the Gauteng East District, and Gauteng on the national stage.
