Heidelberg is set to come alive with activity as runners from across Gauteng prepare to take part in the Lesedi Easter Marathon on April 6 at the Heidelberg Aerodrome.

The event, organised by Lesedi Local Municipality in partnership with the Suikerbosrand Athletics Club, is expected to draw a strong field of athletes, ranging from seasoned marathon runners to social participants and families.

As an official qualifier race, the marathon offers a variety of distances, including 1km, 5km, 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km, giving participants of all fitness levels an opportunity to take part.

The shorter 1km Easter Egg Dash is expected to be a popular highlight, especially among children and families looking to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Race organisers have confirmed staggered starting times for the different categories.

The 21.1km and 42.2km races will begin at 06:00, followed by the 5km and 10km events at 07:00.

The 1km fun run will start later in the morning at 10:00.

Entry fees vary by race distance, with additional costs for temporary licenses.

Online entries are open, and participants are encouraged to register early. The event aims to promote healthy living while bringing the community together during the Easter period.
