Nigel Gymnastics Club quartet secure Ekurhuleni colours after impressive district performances
Four talented gymnasts from the Nigel Gymnastics Club have qualified to represent Ekurhuleni at the Gauteng Provincial Competition in September after producing outstanding results at the district qualifier in Eldoraigne, Pretoria.
Four gymnasts from the Nigel Gymnastics Club have earned the right to represent Ekurhuleni at the Gauteng Provincial Competition after producing impressive results at the Gymnastics District Qualifier in Eldoraigne, Pretoria, on August 7 and 8.
The district competition was particularly significant, as it was the first event in which athletes competed under the new routines introduced by Gymnastics South Africa.
Despite the changes, the Nigel contingent adapted well and delivered a series of strong performances across the different apparatus, with all four gymnasts securing qualification for Ekurhuleni colours.
Jan Botha finished third in the vault and placed fourth overall, while Arno Stadler claimed second place in both the floor and high bar events before finishing third overall.
Reghardt Stoltz also impressed, securing second place on floor, first on vault and third on parallel bars.
He finished second overall in his category. The standout performance came from Zander Maritz, who claimed first place overall. Maritz dominated several apparatus, winning the vault, parallel bars and high bar events, while finishing third on floor.
The performances reflect the growing strength of gymnastics in Nigel and the young athletes’ commitment to their training and competitive development.
With their district performances securing them Ekurhuleni colours, Botha, Stadler, Stoltz and Maritz will now set their sights on the Gauteng Provincial Competition in September, where they will compete against top gymnasts from across the province.
Their qualification marks an important milestone for the four athletes and offers them an opportunity to showcase their talent on the provincial stage.
