Four promising young wrestlers from Heidelberg Soldiers Wrestling Club will represent the town at the South African Wrestling Federation’s Youth Championships in Cape Town.

The national championships take place on October 2 and 3 at the University of Cape Town, bringing together young wrestlers from across the country.

Heidelberg Soldiers Wrestling Club will be represented by Amieke Nortje, Lindi-Nerina Oosthuizen, Wessel Oosthuizen and Keenan Willcocks. Nortje and Lindi-Nerina Oosthuizen will compete in the U8 division, while Wessel Oosthuizen will compete in the U11 division and Willcocks in the U15 division.

The four wrestlers will compete in both the President’s and Freestyle categories, giving them an opportunity to test their skills against strong opposition at national level.

The team has been preparing under the guidance of experienced coach Dewald de Wet, a former national champion who continues to contribute to the development of young wrestlers at the club.

The tournament will also provide valuable experience at a national level and an opportunity to measure their progress against some of the country’s leading young wrestlers.

With months of preparation behind them, the four competitors will now look to step onto the mat with confidence and give their best as they represent Heidelberg Soldiers Wrestling Club in Cape Town.

Separately, the club’s President category competitors are gearing up for a tough contest.
