Tale of two municipalities

Two municipalities to merge.

With one day left before the due date for written submissions,

proposals and comments, the possibility of a merger between Msukaligwa and Dr

Pixley Ka Isaka Seme looks real.The two municipalities are proposed to be amalgamated for

among other reasons to improve the financial

viability of the single municipality.Financial information for the two municipalities for the

financial year 2012/13 state that they both had R442m and R225 m in total

revenue, R538m and R281m in total expenditure, R95m and R56m in deficit

respectively.Msukaligwa municipality boast itself with a wide network of

mines, Camden Power Station, National roads network and one of Transnet busiest

coal line depo in Ermelo.Whiles Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Municipality has a number of tourists

attractions, Sunflower seeds, sorghum, wool, farming are all manufactured and

produced in Volkrust including the one of Eskom’s new generation Power Station.
