Beware of fraudsters

eMalahleni woman was conned by a councillor into paying R70 000 for a low cost house.

The Department of Human Settlement has cautioned communities against paying officials, councillors and people promising them RDP houses (government’s low income houses).

This comes after a 41 year old eMalahleni woman was conned by a counselor into paying R70 000 in a promise for a low cost housing.

The housing policy states that applicants are required to register their need for housing at their municipalities where their applications would be registered through the Housing Subsidy System (HSS). No monies are required for the process and qualifying members should be South African nationality, 21 years old and above, not have benneffited before and earning a salary of less than R3 501.00.
