Youth of Gert Sibande District Municipality empowered at the Youth in Business Indaba

Gerts Sibande District Executive Mayor encourages the youth to form co-operations so they can be trained and appointed to do local projects instead of the municipality having to outsource them.

The youth of Gert Sibande District Municipality gathered last Wednesday at the Youth in Business Indaba held at the GSDM Mayor’s parlour.

The Indaba was aimed at providing a platform for young people to empower themselves with knowledge of possible business ideas, the starting and sustaining of a business, funding of a business and to encourage and produce young entrepreneurs.

The youth armed themselves with knowledge on entrepreneurship skills, growing their businesses, contributing economically to their local municipalities and information on how to access funding from resources available within their local municipality, the district municipality and its affiliates.

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), NYDA and Nkomati Mine provided strategic plans and ideas for possible business ventures and funding available to the youth.

The Indaba also held a briefing for the youth to air their dissatisfaction on how the local and district municipalities were failing them. However, they were also tasked with providing solutions for this.

GSDM Executive Mayor, Mr Muzi Chirwa, gave the keynote address, encouraging the youth to form co-operations so they can be trained and appointed to do local projects instead of the municipality having to outsource them. He added that they should use resources available to them from the district and their local municipalities, but also explore other avenues for funding.
