Eight sentenced to 13 years for copper theft

Eight suspects were recently sentenced to 13 years imprisonment each on charges of copper cable theft.

The sentence emanated from an incident during 2015, when the eight stole copper cable from Mooiplaats mine on the Piet Retief Road.

The accused are Lesotho citizens.

Tieho Matooase (32), Motlohelwa Halahala (30), Khethisa Matsoso (27), Gabriel Sephapo Halahala (22), Lekeletsane Hlohile (33), Nthomba Halahala (26),Sankoela Morobi (38) and Makalo Halahala (32) were also declared unfit to possess firearms in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court.
