Community demands justice for Nomcebo Mokoena

Community members packed the court gallery, demanding that bail be denied, while others sang and danced outside the court, bringing Van Riebeeck Street to a standstill.

Community members picketed outside the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court in solidarity with Ms Nomcebo Mokoena’s family on Friday,12 January.

Nomcebo was stabbed to death in her flat in Wesselton on 17 December last year.

According to a family member, she was discovered by her sister the following day.

A suspect was apprehended in Wesselton on Wednesday, 3 January and attended his first bail application on 5 January.

The case was postponed and he appeared in court again on, Friday, 12 January where it was again postponed to 16 January.

He is remanded in custody.
