A man was robbed of his belongings on the N17 highway as he was hitchhiking from Piet Retief to Bethal on Friday, 25 May.
According to the police spokesman, Capt Carla Prinsloo, the 35-year-old man was robbed at about 12.30pm by the motorist.
“The complainant alleges the owner of a VW Polo pointed a gun at him, took his belongings and left him on the side of the road,” said Capt Prinsloo.
The man was robbed of his cell phone, shoes and cash.
This is the second robbery involving a hitchhiker this month and police cautioned the public to be extra careful when they ask for lifts from strangers.
