The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) and the police launched a manhunt for an escaped inmate on Wednesday, 23 May at Ermelo Correctional Centre.
The 31-year-old escaper, Musa Solomon Shabangu, whose last address is in Driefontein escaped while working at the agriculture section of the centre.
An internal investigation has been launched and the DCS appealed to the public to assist with any information that could lead to the re-arrest of the escaper.
The public was further advised to immediately contact their nearest police station or alternatively contact 10111.
However, the public was warned never to attempt to institute a citizen’s arrest.
“We have released a photo of the escaper and appeal to the community to assist our law enforcement agencies to identify him so we could bring him in to face the full might of the law,” Ms Tshidi Mapole (DCS) said.
