Two men arrested for dealing in marijuana in Fernie

The two men were caught after Fernie Police received a tip-off that two are carrying luggage suspected to be containing marijuana.

Fernie Police arrested two men for dealing in marijuana on Sunday, 24 June.

According to police, the men were arrested after police were tipped off that two men were carrying the drug in their luggage in a local taxi travelling from Diepdale to Fernie.

“At around 3pm, Const Siphamandla Lethu Nkosi investigated the information received and stopped the taxi and found the bag matching the description,” Fernie Police’s spokesman, Const December Magagula said.

Const Magagula added that during the search of the bag, Const Nkosi found eight parcels of compressed marijuana weighing 8.35kg.

The two suspects, Messrs Themba Khumalo (25) and Thando Sibande (24), were arrested and charged with dealing in marijuana.

They appeared in the Mayflower Periodical Court on Monday, 25 June.

The case was postponed to 4 July and both suspects are remanded in jail.
