ERMELO – The already strained Msukaligwa Local Municipality’s power grid has been dealt another blow through an act of alleged sabotage on January 6.
Municipal technicians noticed another neutral wire cut off from a kiosk near Lionel Ginsburg Avenue, George Botha Park, Ext 14.
The municipal spokesman, Mr Mandla Zwane, said they noted with concern the increase in damage to electricity kiosks and the cutting of the neutral wires, which leads to power surges.
“The municipality condemns in the strongest terms possible these despicable and unscrupulous barbaric acts.”
Over the past week, the municipal technicians also found cut-offs near Wessel Breytenbach Street, Pet Street, the Tienie Louw/Pepler Scholtz area and others.
Highvelder recently reported on these acts of alleged sabotage and spoke to Mr Athol Stark, the chief coordinator of Highveld Tourism Mpumalanga.
He claimed this was being done on purpose to destabilise the municipality and to create anger and frustration among the community towards the municipality.
“A political purpose should also not be ruled out of the equation.”
