Eskom suspends interruption of bulk power supply to Msukaligwa Municipality
Eskom would continue to work with all municipalities to develop long term sustainable plans that ensure that municipalities stay out of the debt trap.
In a statement received at 18:30 yesterday (Thursday 2 March) Eskom announced the suspension of the planned interruption of bulk power supply to Msukaligwa (Ermelo) and eMalahleni (Witbank) local municipalities after reaching agreements for the settlements of their arrears debt.
Msukaligwa Local Municipality has provided the required council resolution to support the agreement and Eskom expects that eMalahleni Local Municipality will provide the council resolution by close of business today 3 March.
The statement said further that Eskom would continue to work with all municipalities to develop long term sustainable plans that ensure that municipalities stay out of the debt trap.
“Eskom is obliged to supply electricity on a financially sustainable basis. Should the municipalities fail to honour the afore-mentioned payment agreements, Eskom would reserve the right to implement the interruptions within 7 (seven) days of the breach.”
Eskom encouraged Municipal customers to engage with their supply authorities to obtain updated information on their municipalities’ arrears situation.
