Suspects allegedly pay cop to strip car parked at police station

A Pinetown cop was arrested after suspects caught stripping the car alleged they had paid the officer for the vehicle's wheels.

THREE suspects were arrested on Wednesday (July 15) after they were bust allegedly stripping a vehicle parked at the Pinetown Police Station.

An officer stationed at Pinetown, who was allegedly paid a large sum of money by the suspects so they could strip the vehicle, was the fourth suspect who was arrested.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, confirmed the arrests, and that the 27-year-old constable has been charged with corruption.

Magwaza said the suspects were arrested for theft from a motor vehicle.

“They appeared before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 16 July 2026, where the matter was remanded to Friday, 24 July 2026, for further court proceedings.

“It is reported that on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, the suspects were caught stripping a parked vehicle at Pinetown police station. During the questioning they alleged that they had paid a police officer stationed at the police station R5000 for the vehicle’s wheels and produced proof of payment,” said Magwaza.

The vehicle had been impounded at the station as an exhibit.
