NUMSA members flock to Durban Central

Suspended general secretary leads thousands of marchers.

METRO Police guided the traffic when the Durban’s city centre was brought to a standstill as thousands of members of the National Union of Metal Workers of SA (NUMSA) marched through the city.

Zwelinzima Vavi, suspended Congress of SA Trade Unions (COSATU) general secretary led the march as he addressed members of the union at the Durban City Hall.

The march is part of a nationwide campaign by NUMSA against the Employment Tax Incentive Act which gives tax breaks to businesses that hire young people.

No incidents were reported so far as police have been present throughout the march.
