A FIRE at a Arundel Garden substation this morning left 10 houses without electricity. According to local councillor, Chris van der Berg, the substation caught fire earlier this afternoon after a group of men burned something nearby.

“Some people burned tyres or cable nearby and left the area without putting the fire out, subsequently the substation caught fire and exploded leaving the 10 houses connected to that grid without electricity,” said Van der Berg.

Firemen attended the scene and put the fire out before it spread further into the nearby bushes. It is unclear when the electricity will be restored in the area.
