QUEENSBURGH Girls’ High School matric pupil, Tanya Khuzwayo (18), recently made it through to The International Hotel School “Ticket to life” bursary competition finals that will be held at Tala Private Game Lodge.
Open to any current matric pupil, this annual competition is an opportunity to win 100 per cent of one’s tuition fees for any IHS programme of their choice.
Nationally the prizes are valued up to R750 000 with one winner in each province being chosen.
Having made it into the top five, Khuzwayo is looking forward to participating in this week’s hospitality “boot camp” where she will be expected to work in the various departments of the hotel, along with her fellow contestants, to get a feel of the industry.
During each department’s work experience, each pupil will be assessed and this will be reported back to the judges who make the decision on the winner on Friday.
Khuzwayo believes that her passion for the industry, ability to work under pressure and professionalism are good traits in this industry and thus she is confident that she stands a good chance at winning the bursary.
“I am really looking forward to experiencing the different departments and seeing which one I enjoy the most, but my heart is in the management department,” she says.
In her spare time, this determined and outgoing young lady enjoys reading, watching cooking shows and playing hockey.
