Lengthy sentences for Pinetown child rapists

Pinetown Regional Court condemns child rapists.

The Pinetown Regional Court is sending out a strong message that rape of minors will not be tolerated.

On 6 October, a 37-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for the rape of two minors. The accused was convicted and sentenced on two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

It is alleged that between 2008 and 2011, the victims between ages of six and eight years were sexually assaulted by the accused.

“He would call the victims to visit his residence in New Germany and he would take them to swimming pool where he repeatedly raped them. This would happen every time the victims visited his stepdaughter,” said Captain Thulani Zwane, media spokesperson for the SAPS.

In another related incident, the accused raped his stepdaughter and another victim, both 13 years of age. Cases of rape and sexual assault were opened for investigation at Pinetown police station. The Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit took over the investigation and the suspect was arrested.

He appeared in court and he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for each count of rape and five years for sexual assault and five years each for three counts of sexual assault which added up to total a of 35 years imprisonment.

KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for the excellent investigation that led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.

“This is testimony that we will leave no stone unturned and sends a strong message to criminals that their behavior will not be tolerated,” she said.
