Stage one load shedding now active
Technical problems at power stations lead to load shedding.
ESKOM implemented stage one load shedding earlier today (26 January) due to unforeseen technical problems at power stations. The power system is severely constrained, amd load shedding is expected to continue until 10pm this evening.
The eThekwini Municipality has urged all customers to switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day to reduce electricity demand.
The statement issued by the municipality further stated that commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can make the biggest difference by switching off non-essential lights. They are also encouraged to not leave office equipment, such as photocopiers and computers, in standby mode after hours. In the event of rotational load shedding, switch off all appliances to prevent overload tripping when the power does return. The load shedding schedule is available on the municipal website.
