Local company promotes canoe safety

A local company handed over equipment to the Canoe SA Safety team.

CANOE SA (CSA) Safety recently received equipment for the on-river safety and sweep teams, courtesy of Sika, a speciality chemicals company with a leading position in the development and production of systems and products. This is the third year that CSA has been associated with Sika, which sponsored two K2 kayaks, two plastic rescue kayaks, paddles, kayaking jackets and headgear for use in the events and courses.

Rob Hill, CSA safety officer, said, “Sika is a company that has openly supported the ‘safety first, safety always and no compromise’ initiative for the CSA-accredited paddling events, it’s paddlers and the rescue service providers – NSRI, Navy and SAPS Rescue Units. This has been done with accredited and certified swift water courses and the introduction of a river awareness course for schools and all river users. Sika has provided the much-needed, all-important equipment for the on-river safety and sweep teams. In these hard economic times, it’s with huge appreciation and respect that CSA can have a sponsor like SIKA that continues to support it’s sporting events.”

“Sika takes pride in safety in all aspects of business, so it was important for Sika to get behind CSA to assist with the vital safety equipment that they need to ensure that the best safety practices are taken on the rivers,” said Nadine Thurtell, Sika’s marketing manager at TM Concrete and Distribution.
