15 injured in Shongweni taxi, bakkie accident

Fifteen people were injured when a bakkie and taxi collided on Shongweni Road in Shongweni this morning.

ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, responded to the scene and on arrival found the bakkie parked on the side of the road and the taxi at the bottom of a small embankment, upside down.

“It was found that 15 patients, two from the bakkie and 13 from the taxi, had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately no fatalities were found on scene. The patients were treated on scene for their injuries and thereafter transported to nearby facilities for further treatment,” said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by local authorities.
