Burnt body found in sugar cane field

The burnt body was found by a sugar cane worker, who then contacted the police.

HILLCREST detectives are appealing to anyone who can assist to trace relatives of a woman whose body was found in a sugar cane field near Shongweni Dam.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, it is alleged that on Saturday, 1 August, police attended to a report of a deceased’s body.

“They found a burnt skeleton in the field. The body was found by a sugar cane worker, who then contacted the police.

“Upon further investigation, police found long hair next to her skull.”

The victim was wearing blue jeans with cream white boots and there were cosmetics located near the body.

Manqele said police assume this is a case of murder and the inquest was referred to Hillcrest police for further investigation. Anyone who might have information can contact Det/Cst Myeni on 073 073 0890.
